Purpose-built business laptop

The Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 2 pairs an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor with 24GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe SSD. The 14.0 inch Full HD IPS panel runs at 1920x1080 resolution. It ships with Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon pre-installed and uses Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics.

Hardware servicing and setup

The chassis measures 12.9 by 8.9 by .70 inches and weighs 3.23lb. Memory and storage are accessed by removing the base cover; the DDR4 SO-DIMM slot and M.2 bay are then exposed. Common issues include stripped case screws and the need to disable secure boot in the BIOS before the Linux install will boot.

Connectivity and power limits

Wireless uses Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.2 while wired LAN tops out at 1000Mbps. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports carry data, video and charging but the included 65W adapter is the maximum power source. The 50WHr battery and single HDMI output cap external display options to one additional screen.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor and 24GB DDR4 memory are detected after first boot?

Open a terminal and run lscpu to confirm the i5-1135G7 with 4 cores and up to 4.2 GHz boost, then run free -h to show 24GB DDR4 installed.

Which accessories are included in the box and which must be purchased separately?

The box contains the laptop, a 65W power supply and the integrated 50WHr Li-Polymer battery. A Thunderbolt 4 dock, external monitor via HDMI or a Micro SD card are not included.

This configuration is fixed at 24GB DDR4 and 1TB PCIe SSD — how do I know it suits my workload?

24GB DDR4 handles heavy multitasking and virtual machines while the 1TB PCIe SSD provides fast storage for large projects; both are soldered or single-slot so cannot be upgraded later.
