ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 Business Laptop

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor with four cores reaching 4.2 GHz. It ships with 24GB of DDR4 memory and a 500GB PCIe SSD. The 1920 x 1080 IPS display and Ubuntu Linux make it ready for office work, remote administration and light development tasks.

Thermals and Power in Daily Use

A 65W power supply charges the integrated 50WHr Li-Polymer battery. The efficient i5-1135G7 and integrated Iris Xe graphics keep heat and fan noise low during typical document, browser and video workloads. Sustained multi-core loads will raise temperatures and activate the cooling system more noticeably.

Build, Ports and Daily Connectivity

The black chassis measures 12.9 x 8.9 x 0.70 inches and weighs 3.23lb. Two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet, a microSD reader and a combo audio jack cover docking, external displays and wired networks. A 720p webcam handles video calls. Buyers who need a dedicated GPU or a larger screen should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 24GB DDR4 memory and which step is often missed?

The 24GB DDR4 SO-DIMM slots are under the bottom cover; the step people miss is pressing the module in fully until both side clips click, otherwise the system will not recognise the full 24GB.

What maintenance will the 50WHr Li-Polymer battery and 65W power supply need later?

The 50WHr Li-Polymer battery will eventually hold less charge and need replacement; the 65W power supply should be checked for cable wear and replaced if the connector becomes loose.

What limit appears first when the i5-1135G7 runs at 4.2 GHz under sustained load?

The 50WHr battery and 65W power supply limit sustained 4.2 GHz boost; the system throttles to stay within the 65W power envelope and battery thermal limits.
