Ready for office workloads

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480S is a 14-inch laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U running at 1.7 GHz with 24 GB of memory and a 512 GB NVMe drive. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and a non-touch FHD display. The configuration targets professionals who need reliable multitasking in a compact mainstream chassis.

Connectivity for docks and peripherals

Two USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port and an Intel Thunderbolt connection handle external storage, monitors and docking stations. An HDMI output adds a second display without extra adapters. The M.2 NVMe slot is already occupied by the 512 GB drive, so storage expansion would require replacing the internal module.

Sustained productivity thermals

The 1.7 GHz base clock and 24 GB memory combination keeps performance steady during long document, spreadsheet or video-conference sessions. The integrated cooling manages heat from the U-series processor without throttling typical office workloads. Buyers who need discrete graphics or higher sustained clock speeds for rendering should consider other form factors.

Questions about this item

How long can the 24GB RAM and 1.7GHz Core i5-8350U sustain heavy workloads before thermal throttling?

The 24GB RAM and 1.7GHz Core i5-8350U handle sustained workloads within the laptop's thermal design; throttling only occurs if cooling vents are blocked or ambient temperature is high.

What noise and heat levels should I expect from the 14-inch chassis when running all day?

The 14-inch ThinkPad T480S runs quietly under typical loads; fan noise rises during extended heavy tasks but stays within normal office background levels.

Which existing peripherals need Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 to work with this laptop?

Devices using Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 — such as external NVMe drives, docks or high-resolution monitors — will connect directly; older USB-A gear works via the two USB 3.0 ports.
