ThinkPad T480s business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8550U processor running at 1.80 GHz with up to 4.0 GHz turbo. It ships with 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD. The matte IPS display delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit comes pre-installed.

Security and connectivity features

A match-on-chip fingerprint reader and ThinkShutter webcam cover provide hardware-level sign-in protection and privacy. Thunderbolt over USB-C supplies 40 Gbps data bandwidth, dual video streams and power delivery through a single port. Bluetooth 4.1 handles wireless peripherals. The UltraNav touchpad and backlit keyboard complete the input suite.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy OS

This configuration suits professionals who require Windows 7 Pro compatibility for certified applications. Buyers who need a newer operating system or dedicated graphics for heavy 3D work should look elsewhere. The integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics handle general productivity and video playback but not intensive rendering.

Questions about this item

Does the 24 GB DDR4 memory use soldered and slotted modules that I can upgrade later?

The 24 GB DDR4 configuration combines soldered and slotted modules, so only the slotted portion can be swapped for a higher-capacity stick.

Will the Intel UHD 620 graphics throttle the i7-8550U during long rendering sessions?

The UHD 620 shares system memory and thermal budget with the CPU, so extended GPU loads will reduce available turbo headroom for the processor.

How loud does the fan get and what surface temperatures appear when the 14" IPS panel runs at full brightness all day?

Under continuous load the single fan spins up audibly and the keyboard deck and bottom case reach warm but typical business-laptop temperatures.
