ThinkPad T480s business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14 inch business laptop running Windows 7 Professional. It uses an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with a base frequency of 1.60 GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz. The system includes 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB SSD. The 1920 x 1080 IPS matte display is non-touch. A fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard are fitted.

Setup checks before ordering

Verify that your software runs on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and that any required peripherals work with Bluetooth 4.1 and the available USB ports. Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C is present for high-speed docks or external displays. The integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics drive the internal panel and external outputs. The UltraNav touchpad and pointing stick are built in.

Sustained-load behaviour

The chassis passes 21 MIL-SPEC tests for reliability in harsh environments. Under continuous workloads the quad-core i5-8250U manages thermals within the thin-and-light body weighing 2.9 lbs maximum. Thunderbolt 3 maintains up to 40 Gbps bandwidth during long transfers. The 1 TB SSD and 24 GB DDR4 support extended multitasking without paging bottlenecks.

Questions about this item

What accessories are included with the ThinkPad T480s and is the 24GB DDR4 memory user-upgradeable?

The laptop ships with the 14" IPS FHD matte display, fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, ThinkPad UltraNav touchpad, webcam with ThinkShutter cover, and Bluetooth 4.1. The 24GB DDR4 memory is soldered and not upgradeable.

Should I choose the 1TB SSD configuration or the lighter 2.9 lb model for maximum Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth?

The single listed configuration pairs the 1TB SSD with 24GB DDR4 and the Intel Core i5-8250U reaching 3.4 GHz. Thunderbolt 3 runs at 40 Gbps on every unit, so storage capacity does not affect port speed.

How does the i5-8250U base clock of 1.60 GHz behave when driving the 1920x1080 panel under sustained load?

The quad-core i5-8250U runs at 1.60 GHz base and can boost to 3.40 GHz. Under continuous workloads the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics and 24GB DDR4 share thermal headroom, so clocks settle between base and boost depending on cooling.
