Business ultraportable with LTE

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need reliable performance and integrated 4G connectivity. It ships new with Windows 7 Professional, an Intel Core i5-8250U processor reaching 3.4 GHz, 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD. The 1920 x 1080 IPS matte display, fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard complete a configuration ready for secure, on-the-go work.

Thunderbolt 3 expands desk options

A single Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth, letting you attach external storage, dual 4K displays or a dock with one cable while also supplying power. Three additional USB ports and Bluetooth 4.1 handle legacy peripherals and wireless accessories without adapters. The 2.9 lb chassis passes 21 MIL-SPEC tests, so the unit survives travel vibration, temperature swings and humidity without extra ruggedising gear.

Suits frequent travellers needing WWAN

Buyers who want built-in LTE, a spill-resistant keyboard and a lightweight frame tested to military standards will find the spec list matches their requirements. Users who need a touchscreen, dedicated graphics, more than 8 GB of soldered memory or a modern supported operating system should look at alternative configurations.

Questions about this item

Does the 8 GB DDR4 memory run into a bottleneck during long compile or render sessions?

The i5-8250U quad-core reaches 3.4 GHz turbo but only 8 GB DDR4 is fitted, so heavy multitasking will hit the memory ceiling first.

How loud and hot does the chassis get when the i5-8250U runs at full load all day?

MIL-SPEC 21 tests cover thermal extremes, but the supplier data gives no fan-noise or surface-temperature figures for sustained 3.4 GHz operation.

Which dock or monitor cables must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port at 40 Gbps?

A certified Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock is required; standard USB-C cables will not deliver the 40 Gbps bandwidth or dual-video capability.
