Built for Mobile Professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.60 GHz with a turbo up to 3.4 GHz. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 500 GB SSD. The matte IPS display delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input, and a fingerprint reader adds biometric security for corporate environments.

Thermals and Efficiency in Daily Use

The ultra-low-voltage quad-core CPU keeps heat and fan noise modest during typical office workloads such as document editing, video calls and web browsing. Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics share system memory, avoiding the extra power draw of a discrete GPU. Bluetooth 4.1 handles peripheral connections with minimal impact on the 2.9 lb chassis battery life.

Docking and Expansion Flexibility

A Thunderbolt 3 port provides 40 Gbps bandwidth for external displays, storage or docks while also supplying power to the laptop. Four USB ports and a 4-in-1 card reader cover legacy accessories and media imports without dongles. The 4G LTE WWAN module enables connectivity away from Wi-Fi, and the 64-bit OS supports the full 24 GB memory allocation. Buyers who need a touchscreen or a second storage drive should consider other models.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 24 GB DDR4 memory and what step is often missed?

The memory uses DDR4 SO-DIMM slots; the step often missed is seating both modules fully until the side clips click, otherwise the system will only show half the capacity.

What maintenance will the 500 GB SSD need over time?

The 500 GB SSD has no moving parts, so no mechanical maintenance is required; keeping at least 10 % free space and updating firmware when Lenovo releases it preserves write performance.

Which limit appears first during a long 3.40 GHz workload?

The cooling solution reaches its thermal limit first, causing the Intel Core i5-8250U to reduce clocks below the 3.40 GHz turbo frequency to stay within its temperature envelope.
