Purpose-built mobile workstation

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480s is a 14.0" business laptop running Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSD. It targets professionals who need a mature operating system, integrated fingerprint security and WWAN connectivity in a chassis tested to 21 MIL-SPEC standards.

Fit and exclusions

Suits IT teams maintaining legacy Windows 7 environments, field staff requiring 4G LTE WWAN access and users who value the ThinkPad UltraNav pointing experience. Not suited for buyers who need a current OS with ongoing security patches, touchscreen input, discrete graphics performance or user-upgradable memory beyond the soldered 8 GB configuration.

Deciding specification

The 2 TB NVMe SSD is the single specification that determines fit; it provides high-capacity solid-state storage for large local datasets without relying on external drives or cloud sync.

Questions about this item

Will the i5-8250U throttle when I push it to 3.4 GHz for long renders?

The quad-core i5-8250U has a base speed of 1.60 GHz and a maximum turbo of 3.4 GHz; sustained loads will be limited by the ultrabook cooling design.

How loud and hot does the chassis get during an all-day workload?

The 14.0" magnesium-alloy frame passes 21 MIL-SPEC tests, so fan noise and surface temperature stay within business-class limits for continuous use.

Which dock or monitor cable do I need for the Thunderbolt 3 port?

The single USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gbps, so any Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C dock, monitor or power adapter will work.
