Business ultraportable

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0 inch Windows 10 Pro notebook built for professionals who need a compact, durable machine for daily office work and travel. It combines a quad-core Intel Core i5-8265U processor with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB NVMe solid-state drive.

Quad-core processor ceiling

The Intel Core i5-8265U runs at a 1.60 GHz base frequency and reaches 3.9 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0, providing the single-thread speed that determines how quickly business applications and browser workloads respond. Four cores handle parallel tasks such as video calls, spreadsheets and background sync without stalling.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the U-series chip will throttle below its peak turbo frequency to stay within its thermal envelope, so prolonged compiles or large file exports run slower than short bursts. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and is suited only for desktop display and light media playback.

Questions about this item

How fast does the 3.9GHz turbo speed actually run in daily use?

The Core i5-8265U reaches 3.9GHz on single-threaded bursts, then settles near its 1.6GHz base under sustained loads to stay within thermal limits.

What external displays can the Thunderbolt port drive?

Thunderbolt on this model carries DisplayPort 1.2 signals, so it supports one 4K panel at 60Hz or two 1080p panels through a compatible dock.

Will the 14-inch chassis fit a standard 14-inch laptop sleeve?

Yes, the 14.0-inch form factor matches common 14-inch sleeve dimensions; verify the sleeve depth if you carry a bulky charger.
