14-inch business notebook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14-inch Windows 10 Pro notebook built around a quad-core Intel Core i7-8565U processor that reaches 4.6 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe solid-state drive for fast storage. The non-touch IPS panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution in a compact black chassis. A fingerprint reader and 720p webcam complete the feature set for professional users.

Thermals and power in daily work

The ultra-low-power i7-8565U runs at a 1.80 GHz base frequency and boosts only when workloads demand it, keeping heat output modest during typical office tasks. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics avoids the extra thermal load of a discrete GPU, so the cooling system stays quiet under light use. Power draw remains low for all-day battery life on the move. Sustained heavy loads will raise fan speed, but normal productivity stays comfortable.

Build quality and daily connectivity

The ThinkPad T490 uses the series’ spill-resistant keyboard and durable hinge design for long-term reliability. A single Thunderbolt port provides high-speed data, video output and charging through one cable. HDMI allows direct connection to external monitors without adapters. The built-in card reader simplifies photo and file transfers. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth handle wireless peripherals and networks, while the 720p webcam supports video calls.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB NVMe SSD and what step is often missed?

The 1TB NVMe SSD is already installed; if you add a second drive, secure the screw and enable the slot in BIOS — many forget the BIOS step.

What maintenance will the 16GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 16GB DDR4 is soldered and not upgradeable; keep vents clear and run Lenovo Vantage thermal tests annually to catch throttling early.

Which limit appears first during sustained loads on the i7-8565U?

The 1.80GHz base clock drops under thermal limits before the 4.6GHz turbo can sustain, so expect lower steady clocks on long renders.
