ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 with 4G LTE

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14.0-inch ultrabook built for professionals who need integrated mobile broadband. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, an Intel Core i7-7600U processor, 8GB of memory and a 1TB NVMe-PCIe SSD. The carbon-fibre reinforced chassis meets 12 military-grade requirements and passes more than 200 durability tests.

1TB NVMe-PCIe SSD and 8GB soldered RAM

The single specification that decides fit is the 1TB NVMe-PCIe SSD paired with 8GB of non-upgradeable memory. The drive uses the NVMe protocol over PCIe for fast boot and load times, while the RAM is soldered to the board and cannot be increased after purchase. Buyers who need more storage or more memory must choose a different configuration.

Easy deployment with soldered memory constraint

Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed so the laptop is ready to join a domain or enroll in MDM immediately. The fingerprint reader supports Windows Hello for quick biometric sign-in. Thunderbolt over USB-C handles charging, data and video through a single cable. The only common issue is the fixed 8GB RAM, which prevents future upgrades for heavier workloads.

Questions about this item

What does the 3.9 GHz turbo speed mean for everyday workloads on this i7-7600U?

The dual-core processor can briefly reach 3.9 GHz for bursty tasks such as spreadsheet recalculation or app launch, then settles to its base clock to manage heat in the thin chassis.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port capped at 40 Gbps actually allow me to connect?

It carries data, video and charging over USB-C so one cable can drive an external 4K display, a fast NVMe enclosure and power the laptop simultaneously.

Will the 14.0 inch 2560 x 1440 screen fit in a standard 14 inch laptop sleeve?

Yes, the carbon-fiber chassis measures within typical 14 inch sleeve dimensions and weighs 2.49 lbs, so it slides into most padded sleeves for this screen class.
