Built for mobile professionals

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 is a 14.0" ultrabook weighing 2.49 lbs with a carbon-fibre chassis tested against 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 durability tests. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7500U reaching 3.5 GHz, backed by 8GB RAM and a 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD. The non-touch FHD IPS panel shows 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Connectivity that changes daily work

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C delivers 40Gbps data and video bandwidth while also charging the system. The integrated 4G LTE WWAN card adds mobile broadband wherever there is a signal, and Bluetooth 4.1 handles peripherals without a dongle. A fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module protect log-ins and encryption keys.

Soldered 8GB memory is the limiting factor

The 8GB of RAM cannot be upgraded, so buyers who need more memory for virtual machines or large datasets must choose a different model. The 512GB NVMe drive and 4G LTE WWAN are fixed configurations, and the 14.0" non-touch display rules out pen or touch workflows.

Questions about this item

Will the 512GB NVMe SSD or the 8GB RAM need upgrading later?

The 512GB NVMe SSD is replaceable with a standard M.2 drive; the 8GB RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded.

What limits the i7-7500U during sustained workloads?

The 3.5 GHz turbo frequency drops when the thermal solution reaches its capacity under continuous load.

How loud or hot does the 14" FHD IPS laptop get when running all day?

The carbon-fibre chassis dissipates heat quietly; fan noise stays low during typical office use and the surface remains comfortable.
