Portable business laptop with touch screen

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is a 12.5 inch touch-enabled notebook built for professionals who need a compact Windows 7 machine. It ships new with an Intel Core i7-2640M processor running up to 3.50 GHz, 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 2TB solid state drive. The HD display resolves at 1366x768 and responds to pen input for annotation on the go.

Interface limits for daily connectivity

Three USB ports handle peripherals while a single VGA and one DisplayPort output drive external monitors. Gigabit LAN tops out at 1000 Mbps and the 802.11 b/g/n wireless link caps at the speeds of that standard. The proprietary docking connector works with compatible ThinkPad T, L and W series docks for shared desk setups. No newer video or data interfaces are present on this chassis.

Keyboard feel and hinge durability

The renowned ThinkPad keyboard offers deep travel and a TrackPoint for precise navigation without leaving the home row. An Active Protection System parks the drive heads on sudden motion and the redesigned hinge uses stronger magnetic latching to keep the screen steady during touch use. Mute-button LEDs give a clear visual cue during conference calls and the spill-resistant design adds resilience in mobile environments.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2TB SSD or a smaller drive?

The 2TB SSD gives you far more room for Windows 7 Home Premium, applications and large files than a smaller drive would, and it keeps the 12.5" HD touch display responsive without mechanical noise.

What does the 3.5 GHz turbo frequency mean in daily use?

The Core i7-2640M can reach 3.5 GHz for short bursts when a single thread needs extra speed, then drops back to protect thermals inside the 12.5" chassis.

Which USB standard do the three ports use, and what speed does it cap at?

The three USB ports follow the USB 3.0 specification, so each port tops out at 5 Gbps when a compatible device is connected.
