Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Business Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5 inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable device with a touchscreen. It runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB solid-state drive. The HD IPS display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution. MIL-SPEC testing and a carbon fibre roll cage ensure it withstands demanding environments.

Installation and Setup

As a complete laptop, the X240 requires no internal assembly; simply power it on and follow the Windows 7 setup prompts. The spill-resistant backlit keyboard and precision touchpad are ready to use immediately. Potential issues include the older Windows 7 Professional operating system, which no longer receives security updates, and the limited two USB ports which may require a hub for multiple peripherals. The integrated battery design means replacement is not user-serviceable without tools.

Capacity and Headroom

The 500GB SSD provides fast boot times and ample space for the operating system, business applications, and local document storage. 8GB of DDR3 memory handles typical office multitasking, web browsing, and video conferencing smoothly. Performance headroom decreases with heavy virtualisation, large dataset processing, or modern creative suites that demand more memory and faster storage interfaces. The HD 1366 x 768 touchscreen is sufficient for productivity but limits detailed visual work or multi-window workflows.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-4600U processor reaches its 3.3 GHz turbo speed after setup?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab and run a demanding task; the CPU clock should scale up to 3.3 GHz when thermal headroom allows.

Which accessories are included and what must I purchase separately for this X240?

The laptop ships with its AC adapter and battery installed; no optical drive or dock is included, so buy any external USB DVD drive or ThinkPad dock separately.

Should I choose the 500GB SSD configuration or look for a larger capacity for this model?

This unit comes with a fixed 500GB solid-state drive; if you need more space, add a USB 3.0 external drive or a high-capacity microSD card.
