Business ultrabook with 12.5" touch display

The ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for professionals who need a durable, portable Windows 7 Professional machine. It combines an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1TB hard drive. The HD IPS touchscreen supports direct input for presentations or field work.

Sustained productivity performance

The dual-core i7-4600U runs at up to 3.3 GHz with 4MB cache to handle multitasking across office applications and video conferencing. The 8GB DDR3 memory keeps multiple browser tabs and documents responsive during extended sessions. The 1TB hard drive provides ample space for local files, though it lacks the speed of solid-state storage for heavy I/O workloads.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

MIL-SPEC testing across eight parameters including high temperature and vibration ensures the chassis manages heat under continuous load. The carbon fiber roll cage adds structural rigidity without adding bulk for a quiet, stable platform. The spill-resistant backlit keyboard and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity support comfortable, low-power operation in mobile environments.

Questions about this item

How hot or loud does the Core i7-4600U get during all-day use?

The i7-4600U is a 15 W ultra-low-voltage chip, so the X240 runs cooler and quieter than full-voltage models; the carbon-fibre roll cage spreads heat without needing high fan speeds.

What must I already own to use the 1366 x 768 touch display and fingerprint reader?

Nothing extra — the touch panel and fingerprint sensor are built in and driven by Windows 7 Professional out of the box.

Will my older USB 2.0 peripherals and Bluetooth 4.0 headset work with the two USB ports on this X240?

Yes, both USB ports are backward-compatible with USB 2.0 devices, and the integrated Bluetooth 4.0 radio pairs with existing 4.0 headsets.
