Ultrabook for mobile professionals

The Lenovo ThinkPad X240 is a 12.5-inch business ultrabook built for frequent travel. It runs Windows 7 Professional on an Intel Core i7-4600U processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory. A carbon-fibre roll cage and MIL-SPEC testing provide durability against pressure, vibration and temperature extremes. The spill-resistant backlit keyboard supports work in low-light conditions.

500GB mechanical hard drive

Storage is supplied by a 500GB hard disk drive rather than a solid-state drive. This means slower boot times and application loading compared with flash storage, but it offers a large capacity at a lower cost. The system includes no SSD and no optical drive. Buyers who prioritise responsiveness should note the mechanical drive is the primary performance bottleneck.

Suits travellers needing rugged build and legacy OS

This unit fits users who require a lightweight, durable chassis with a fingerprint reader and Windows 7 Professional for specific software compatibility. It is not for buyers who want an SSD for faster system response, a touchscreen display, a higher-resolution panel, or a modern operating system with current security updates.

Questions about this item

What real-world speed does the Core i7-4600U hit in this X240?

The Intel Core i7-4600U runs at a base clock with Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz, so burst workloads reach that frequency while sustained loads settle lower depending on thermals.

What does the USB 2.0 interface on this model limit in practice?

The two USB ports follow the 2.0 specification, cabling and peripheral support, so connected storage or accessories operate at that standard's rate.

The chassis houses one 2.5-inch drive bay for the 500GB HDD and two SODIMM slots populated with 8GB of DDR3 memory.
