Slim 12.7 mm DVD burner

The Lite-On DS-8ABSH-01 is a new slim DVD burner designed for laptops or compact desktops with a 12.7 mm drive bay. It connects via a SATA interface and uses a slot-load mechanism. Supported operating systems include Windows 8, 7, XP, Linux and Mac OS.

8X DVD write speeds with dual-layer support

The drive writes DVD+R and DVD-R at 8X and DVD+RW at 8X. DVD-RW writes at 6X. Dual-layer DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL are supported at 6X. DVD-RAM writes at 5X. CD-R and CD-RW both reach 24X. Read speeds are 8X for DVD-ROM and 24X for CD-ROM. Access times are 150 ms for DVD and 130 ms for CD.

Fits slim SATA bays and frees external ports

The 12.7 mm form factor fits standard slim internal bays without an external enclosure. A SATA data and power connection is required inside the chassis. The slot-load design eliminates a protruding tray. Internal mounting keeps USB ports free for other peripherals.

Questions about this item

Will the 12.7 mm slim SATA drive fit in the same bay as my older 12.7 mm IDE optical drive?

The physical height matches at 12.7 mm, but the interface changes from IDE to SATA, so you need a SATA data cable and a SATA power connector from your system.

How can I verify the drive reads and writes at its rated speeds after installation?

Burn a DVD+R at 8X and a CD-R at 24X, then check the write-speed graph in your burning software; read a pressed DVD-ROM at 8X and a CD-ROM at 24X to confirm the 150 ms and 130 ms access times.

Does the box include a SATA data cable, mounting screws or a bezel, or must I source them separately?

The package contains only the bare DS-8ABSH-01 drive; you must supply a SATA data cable, a SATA power lead and any chassis screws or front bezel your laptop or enclosure requires.
