Ultra-slim portable DVD writer

The Lite-On EBAU108 is an external DVD burner designed for laptops and compact desktops that lack an internal optical drive. It draws power directly from a USB 2.0 port, so no separate adapter is required. The slim 13.5 mm profile and 220 g weight make it easy to carry in a laptop bag for mobile professionals.

Burning speeds and disc support

Maximum write speeds reach 8× for DVD±R and DVD±RW, 6× for dual-layer DVD±R DL, and 24× for CD-R and CD-RW media. Reading tops out at 8× for DVD-ROM and 24× for CD-ROM. M-DISC support allows archival-grade recording on compatible media for long-term data preservation.

USB 2.0 interface and system limits

The USB 2.0 connection caps sustained transfer rates well below the drive’s peak optical speeds, so real-world burns run slower than the rated maxima. A Pentium 4 1.3 GHz CPU with 128 MB RAM is the minimum host requirement, and at least 9 GB of free hard-disk space is needed to stage a dual-layer DVD image before writing.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 2.0 interface work reliably with an older laptop that only has USB 1.1 ports?

The drive uses USB 2.0 and is backward compatible with USB 1.1, though write speeds will drop to the slower port's limit.

How can I verify the Smart-Burn feature is active during a burn?

Smart-Burn adjusts laser power automatically; successful verification after finalising the disc confirms it worked.

Does the package include a USB cable or must I buy one separately?

A short USB 2.0 cable is attached to the drive; no separate cable or power adapter is required.
