Product Identity

The Lite-On IHAS124 is a new internal DVD burner with a black tray-loading design. It connects through a SATA interface and is intended for desktop computers that need to read or write optical discs.

Deciding Specification

The drive writes DVD media at up to 24X speed, which determines how quickly you can create data discs or video DVDs. Buyers who require Blu-ray recording or faster DVD writing will need a different class of optical drive.

Bundled Impact

The unit is supplied in bulk packaging without retail accessories or software discs. System builders and upgraders receive only the bare drive, so any burning application or mounting hardware must be sourced separately.

Questions about this item

What does the 24X speed mean when the drive is installed in a real machine?

The 24X rating is the maximum write speed for compatible DVD media; actual throughput depends on the disc quality and the host system's SATA controller.

How does the SATA interface limit performance in practice?

SATA provides sufficient bandwidth for the drive's 24X DVD writes and 16X CD writes without creating a bottleneck.

What physical space and mounting does this internal burner require?

It fits a standard 5.25-inch drive bay with tray loading and secures with four side screws.
