Internal DVD writer with SATA

The Lite-On IHAS324 is an internal DVD burner that connects through a SATA interface. It writes DVD+R and DVD-R media at 24X and reads DVD-ROM discs at 16X. CD-R writing reaches 48X while CD-ROM reading tops out at 48X.

Who this suits and who it does not

This drive suits anyone adding optical media support to a desktop with a free SATA port. It handles CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD±R DL and DVD-RAM formats. Builders working on laptops, slimline PCs or systems that lack a 5.25 inch bay cannot use this unit.

The specification that decides fit

The SATA data and power connectors are the single detail that determines compatibility. Your motherboard must provide a standard SATA port and the case must accept a half-height 5.25 inch internal drive.

Questions about this item

What does the 24X DVD write speed actually deliver in everyday use?

The 24X rating applies to single-layer DVD+R and DVD-R discs; dual-layer DVD+R DL writes at 12X and DVD-RW at 6X, so real-world burn times depend on which media you choose.

How does the SATA connection affect performance and compatibility?

The drive uses a standard SATA interface, giving faster transfer rates than older PATA and fitting current motherboards; hot-swap works only if the board and BIOS also support it.

What physical space and mounting does this internal writer need?

It fits a standard 5.25-inch drive bay, mounts with four M3 screws, and requires a SATA data cable plus a SATA power connector from the PSU.
