Anaerobic pipe sealant for refrigeration systems

Loctite 554 is an anaerobic thread sealant supplied in an 8.5 fl oz bottle. It cures in the absence of air to form a durable seal on metal pipe threads. The formulation is designed for refrigeration applications and meets ISO 10964 and ISO 8302 standards.

Brush application with compatible primers

The liquid sealant is applied by brush directly onto clean threads. Clean-up requires Loctite solvent. Performance can be enhanced on inactive metals or for faster curing by using compatible primer series 7088, 7471 or 7649.

Pressure and temperature operating envelope

The cured sealant withstands liquid pressures up to 10,000 psi across a temperature range of -65 to 300 degrees F. It is formulated specifically for steel components in refrigeration service and is not intended for plastic piping or non-refrigeration hydraulic systems.

Questions about this item

Does the 554 Red sealant require a specific primer such as the 7088 or 7471 series before application?

Compatible primers include the 7088, 7471 and 7649 series; using one of these helps ensure a reliable anaerobic cure on steel threads.

At the 300 Degrees F maximum operating temperature will the cured sealant begin to degrade or lose pressure integrity?

The product is rated for continuous service up to 300 Degrees F and for liquid pressures up to 10,000 psi, so it maintains its seal within that thermal limit.

After curing, does the methyl methacrylate base produce noticeable odour or heat during long-term refrigeration service?

Once fully cured the anaerobic sealant is inert and does not generate heat or odour; clean-up of any uncured material uses Loctite solvent.
