Threadlocking for metals up to 1/2 in

Loctite 290 is a green, medium-strength anaerobic threadlocker designed for brass, bronze, copper, iron, manganese, Monel, nickel and steel fasteners. Its wicking formulation penetrates pre-assembled threads without disassembly. The 0.34 fl oz bottle suits maintenance and repair tasks where bolts are already in place. It meets ASTM D-5363 and MIL-S-46163-A specifications.

Anaerobic cure develops full strength over time

The adhesive cures in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces, reaching a breakaway torque of 90 in-lb. Fixturing occurs within 20 minutes at room temperature, allowing alignment before full lock sets. Sustained vibration and thermal cycling are resisted once the anaerobic polymer matrix cross-links completely. Compatible primer 7649 can accelerate cure on inactive or plated metals.

Replaces mechanical locking devices on installed

This threadlocker upgrades from lock washers, nylon patches or safety wire when disassembly is impractical. The jump is worth it for assemblies requiring reusable, vibration-proof sealing on diameters up to 1/2 in where future adjustment with hand tools remains necessary. It is not suited for large-diameter structural bolts, plastic threads, or gaps exceeding the wicking capability.
