  • Add six drives at once for large storage pools
  • 277 MB/s per port from ASM1166 controller
  • Six LEDs show power and activity per drive
  • Works with Windows, Mac OS, Linux and NAS
  • Fits PCIe 3.0 X4, X8 or X16 slots

Six-port SATA III expansion card

This PCIe 3.0 x2 card adds six SATA III ports through a single x4 slot, using the ASM1166 controller to serve up to six drives simultaneously. It targets builders who need more drive bays than the motherboard provides for NAS, software RAID or bulk storage arrays.

Suits software RAID and NAS builds.

The card exposes each drive to the operating system, so Windows, Linux, macOS and NAS platforms can manage software RAID without extra drivers. Buyers who want hardware RAID offload or boot-from-RAID support should look at a dedicated RAID controller instead.

Each port reaches 277 MB/s max bandwidth

The ASM1166 controller delivers up to 277 MB/s per downstream SATA port while the upstream PCIe 3.0 x2 link runs at 16 GT/s. This ceiling determines whether the card can saturate your SSDs or HDDs in sustained transfers.

Questions about this item

Will the PCIe 3.0 x2 upstream link saturate before the six SATA ports reach their 277 MB/s limit?

The card uses an ASM1166 controller with a PCIe 3.0 x2 upstream speed of 16 GT/s. Each of the six downstream SATA ports can reach 277 MB/s max bandwidth.

Does the ASM1166 controller run hot or draw extra power when all six drives are active continuously?

The expansion card is powered through the PCI Express slot and includes status LEDs for each port. No additional power connector or active cooling is mentioned in the specifications.

Which slot type and cables are required to install this card and connect six drives?

The card fits PCI Express x4, x8 or x16 slots. The package includes six SATA data cables and six SATA power cables for drive connections.
