Passive direct-attach copper cable delivers 40 Gb/s links up to 5 metres with under 0.1 W draw and full IEEE 802.3ba compliance
The LR-LINK QSFP+-DAC-5M is a shielded twinax cable built for 40 Gb/s bi-directional links between switches or servers in the same rack. It draws less than .1 W and meets IEEE 802.3 ba plus InfiniBand QDR specs for reliable short-haul traffic.
When the link stays inside one cabinet or connects adjacent cabinets, this passive assembly removes the cost and power draw of transceivers and patch cords. The jump is worth it whenever the distance fits the fixed five-metre reach and the ports support AC-coupled QSFP+ inputs.
The all-metal housing slides straight into the port with no drivers or configuration required. The only common issue is a loose latch tab that can unseat the cable if the rack vibrates; verify the click and route the stiff cable so it cannot pull sideways on the connector.
Measured against everything we stock in Ethernet & LAN Cables, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

The cable uses standard QSFP+ connectors on both ends, so it fits any MSA-compliant port spacing in switches or NICs.
Insert each end firmly until the latch clicks; the step people miss is verifying the 3.3 V supply is present on the host side before powering on.
Replace it if link errors rise or the all-metal housing shows corrosion, as the passive copper has no active components to degrade otherwise.
