Portable SATA drive adapter

The LUOM E-yield E02 connects any 2.5" or 3.5" SATA HDD or SSD to a USB 3.0 port on a laptop or desktop. It supports data rates up to 5 Gbps and works with Windows Vista through Windows 10 as well as Mac OS X. The 45 cm cable includes a 12 V 2 A power adapter for 3.5" drives. No driver installation is required.

Check your drive and ports

Verify that the drive uses a standard 7-pin + 15-pin SATA connector and that your host has a free USB 3.0 Type-A port. The adapter also works with USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports at reduced speed. Ensure the included 12 V power supply is used for any 3.5" drive; 2.5" drives can run from bus power alone. Confirm the drive itself is functional before connecting.

Replaces dock or enclosure

This cable replaces a bulky drive dock or enclosure when you only need occasional access to bare SATA drives. It is worth choosing when desk space is limited or when you move drives between multiple machines. It is not suited for permanent internal installation or for users who want a protective case around the drive.

Questions about this item

Does the LUOM E-yield E02 include a power adapter for 3.5" drives or must I buy one separately?

The package includes a 12 V 2 A power adapter and a 45 cm USB 3.0 cable, so both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives can be powered without extra purchases.

Should I choose this adapter for a 2.5" SSD or a 3.5" HDD when both are SATA?

It supports all 2.5" and 3.5" SATA HDDs and SSDs, plus SATA optical drives, so either form factor works with the same cable.

What does the 5 Gbps headline speed mean when I connect a SATA III drive to a USB 3.0 port?

The adapter caps at USB 3.0 5 Gbps and supports UASP, giving up to 70 % faster reads and 40 % faster writes than standard USB 3.0, though actual throughput depends on the drive.
