Quick SATA-to-USB access

This USB 3.0 to SATA adapter cable connects any standard 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drive or solid-state drive to a computer through a USB 3.0 port. It is designed for users who need to back up files, upgrade a notebook drive or retrieve data from a bare drive without installing it inside a case. The cable works with Windows Vista through Windows 10, Mac OS X and PS4.

Powered 22-pin connector

The adapter uses a 22-pin SATA connector and includes a 12 V 2 A power adapter that supplies enough current for both 2.5" and 3.5" drives; the power supply is required when a 3.5" drive is attached. It is fully compatible with USB 3.0 and backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1, supports plug-and-play and hot-swapping, and complies with serial ATA 2.0 standards.

Replaces internal drive bays

This cable replaces the need for an internal drive bay or a dedicated enclosure when you only need temporary access to a SATA drive. The jump is worth it when you want UASP-supported transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps — up to 70 % faster than traditional USB 3.0 with an 80 % reduction in processor load — without opening the computer case.

Questions about this item

What USB standard does the LUOM E-yield T04 use, and what speed does it cap at in practice?

It uses USB 3.0 and caps at 5 Gbps, with UASP support for faster transfers when the host controller allows it.

What physical drive sizes and power does the adapter need to fit a 3.5" SATA drive?

It fits 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives via a 22-pin connector; the included 12 V 2 A power adapter is required for 3.5" drives.

How is the adapter installed, and what step do people often miss?

Connect the SATA drive to the 22-pin cable, plug the USB 3.0 end into the computer, and attach the 12 V 2 A power adapter before powering on — skipping the power adapter for a 3.5" drive is the common mistake.
