What it is

This LUOM Essager YDI cable connects a USB-C port to a Lightning device. It carries up to 20 W of power with a 3 A maximum current and moves data at 480 Mbps. The 3.3 ft braided nylon jacket resists tangles, while the aluminium plug housings reinforce the stress points. Apple MFi certification confirms safe charging and syncing with supported iPhone, iPad and iPod models.

Who it suits

Owners of iPhone 8 through 14 series, iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation, recent iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini and AirPods Max gain full PD fast charging when paired with a compatible USB-C power adapter. Older iPhone 7, 6s, SE 1st generation and legacy iPad models charge at their standard rates only. Buyers who need USB 3 or higher transfer speeds for large media libraries should look at a different cable class.

Deciding specification

The 480 Mbps transfer rate is the single figure that determines whether this cable matches the workflow. It handles everyday syncing, backups and document moves, but it will not accelerate multi-gigabyte video offloads the way a USB 3.1 or USB4 link would.
