What this converter does

The LUOM HDMI ARC Audio Extractor takes the audio return channel from a compatible television and splits it into three simultaneous outputs: optical Toslink, coaxial SPDIF and a 3.5 mm stereo jack. It is built for owners of soundbars, home-theatre receivers or powered speakers that lack an HDMI ARC input but accept digital or analogue audio.

Installation and common issues

Connect the TV's HDMI ARC port to the converter with an HDMI 2.0 cable, attach the supplied USB-C power lead, then run optical, coaxial or 3.5 mm cables to your audio gear; no drivers are required. The 3.5 mm jack only passes PCM or LPCM signals, so multichannel formats will not appear there, and the television must have an ARC-labelled HDMI port or the extractor will not function.

The spec that decides compatibility

The unit supports sampling rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 96 and 192 kHz at 24-bit depth and handles both LPCM 2.0 and PCM 5.1 input formats. If your source material or playback equipment requires bitstream passthrough of compressed surround formats such as Dolby Digital Plus or DTS-HD, this converter will not pass them.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the extractor is passing audio at 192KHz 24-bit after connecting it to my TV ARC port?

Play content on the TV and check the soundbar or receiver display — it should show a 192KHz / 24-bit PCM or LPCM signal when the extractor is working correctly.

The box lists an HDMI ARC input and Optical, Coaxial, 3.5mm outputs — do I need to buy any cables or power adapters separately?

A Type-C power cable is included; you only need to supply an HDMI cable for the TV ARC connection and the appropriate optical, coaxial or 3.5mm cable for your audio device.

My TV only outputs PCM 2.0 — will this model still work, or do I need a version that handles 5.1?

This extractor supports both LPCM 2.0 and PCM 5.1 on the HDMI ARC input, so it will work with your TV's 2.0 output and also handle 5.1 sources if you add them later.
