Signal Conversion

The LUOM HDV101 is an active HDMI to VGA adapter that converts a digital HDMI signal to an analogue VGA output. It is intended for users who need to connect a modern HDMI source such as a laptop, ultrabook, Chromebook or Raspberry Pi to a legacy monitor, projector or TV that only accepts a VGA input.

Power And Audio Extras

A tethered Micro USB cable supplies supplementary power for host devices with low-power HDMI ports, ensuring a stable link where an unpowered dongle would fail. The integrated 3.5 mm audio jack extracts the embedded audio stream so sound can be routed to external speakers or a display with a line-in socket.

Resolution Headroom

The converter supports video timings up to 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, covering 720p and 1600x1200 modes for typical office and classroom displays. It does not pass HDCP-protected streams, so commercial Blu-ray playback and console output from a PS3 or PS4 will not appear on the connected screen.

Questions about this item

Will the micro-USB power lead or the gold-plated HDMI plug need replacing after heavy daily use?

The gold-plated HDMI connector resists corrosion and the 4-inch strain-relief cable protects the port, so neither the power lead nor the plug is expected to wear out under normal daily use.

What resolution ceiling will I hit first when driving a 1080p monitor all day?

The adapter tops out at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, so that 1080p 60 Hz ceiling is the first limit you reach under sustained use.

Does the unit get warm or draw extra power when it runs continuously with the micro-USB cable connected?

The built-in active IC chip draws only the small current supplied through the micro-USB port, and the short cable design keeps heat low during continuous operation.
