What this cable does

The LUOM TJ-A055 connects a USB-C source that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode to a DisplayPort 1.4 display. It carries up to 32.4 Gbps bandwidth, enabling 8K at 60 Hz with 10-bit HDR, 4K at 144 Hz or 120 Hz, and 2K at 240 Hz. The cable is unidirectional, male-to-male, and 6.6 ft long. It requires no drivers and supports Multi-Stream Transport for daisy-chaining monitors.

When to upgrade from an older link

If you are currently limited to 4K at 60 Hz or lack HDR support, this cable unlocks 8K at 60 Hz and high-refresh 4K or 2K modes. The jump is worth it when both your host and monitor support DP 1.4 with DSC 1.2 and you need the extra bandwidth for colour depth or frame rate. It will not add capability if either end stops at an earlier standard.

Limits of the DisplayPort 1.4 interface

The 32.4 Gbps ceiling means 8K is only possible at 60 Hz with compression; higher refresh rates at that resolution need a newer interface. DSC 1.2 is mandatory for the top modes, so a host without DSC cannot reach 8K or 4K at 240 Hz. The cable does not carry power, so it cannot charge the source device. It also cannot operate in reverse from a DisplayPort source to a USB-C sink.

Questions about this item

What USB-C port standard does the 6.6 ft cable require on the source device?

The source device must support DP Alt Mode over its USB-C port to transmit video to the DisplayPort 1.4 connector.

Which connector plugs in first during installation, and what common mistake should be avoided?

Plug the USB-C end into the host and the DisplayPort end into the monitor; the cable is unidirectional and will not work if reversed.

When should the 28 AWG tinned copper cable be replaced?

Replace the cable if the gold-plated contacts show wear, the PVC jacket is damaged, or 8K 60 Hz and 4K 240 Hz signals become unstable.
