A 12.0 mm two-flute ball nose end mill with a necked design for contoured milling
The M.A. Ford 156M1200N30A is a 12.0mm diameter Tuffcut end mill with two flutes and a ball nose geometry. It is designed for contouring and profiling operations in a variety of materials. The necked design provides additional reach for deep cavity work. Machinists and fabricators use this tool for precision finishing passes.
This ball nose cutter replaces square-end tools when 3D contouring or radius profiling is required. The jump is worth it when a part demands smooth curved surfaces that a flat bottom cannot produce. The two-flute design aids chip evacuation in softer alloys and non-ferrous metals. It is not for high-feed roughing or slotting operations needing maximum material removal rates.
The shank fits directly into ER collets, shrink-fit holders or Weldon flats sized for 12.0mm. Runout should be checked after clamping to protect the ball nose geometry. Common issues include excessive vibration from overhang beyond the necked section and premature wear if coolant or air blast is not directed at the cutting zone. California Proposition 65 warnings apply to this product.

The cutter has a 12.0 mm shank; use a precision ER collet or hydraulic holder that matches that diameter for concentric grip.
Insert the shank fully into the collet, tighten the collet nut to the maker's torque spec, then verify run-out at the ball tip before cutting.
Re-grind when flank wear reaches the maker's limit or the ball radius falls out of tolerance; replace if the neck shows cracking or the flutes chip.
