Valve-Action Paint Marker for Industrial Surfaces

The Markal 434-96817 is a valve-action liquid paint marker designed for permanent marking on metal, glass, plastic, rubber, wood, cardboard and fabric. It delivers a purple mark through a 0.13-inch bullet tip that resists wear on rough or smooth substrates. The metal barrel includes a pocket clip for secure storage in harsh environments.

Check Surface Compatibility and Temperature Limits

Verify that the substrate matches the listed materials before ordering, as adhesion varies by surface texture and contamination. The marker operates between -50 °F and 150 °F, with a dry time of 30 seconds at standard conditions. Confirm that your application does not exceed the maximum performance temperature of 150 °F.

Suits Maintenance Teams Needing Durable Marks

This marker suits maintenance crews, fabricators and inspectors who require legible, long-lasting identification on equipment, piping or structural steel. It is not intended for users who need fine-line detail, erasable marks or compliance with MIL-STD-2041D or GE nuclear specifications. Buyers needing a different colour or tip style should select an alternative model.

Questions about this item

Does the Markal 434-96817 come with any accessories or do I need to buy a clip or cap separately?

The marker has a metal housing with a built-in clip, so no separate clip or cap purchase is needed. It is sold as a single unit ready to use.

Should I choose the purple 1/8" bullet tip version or are there other tip sizes and colours for this model?

This specific model 96817 is only offered in purple with a .13" bullet tip. Other colours or tip sizes would be different model numbers.

What does the 30-second dry time mean when I am marking metal or plastic in a cold workshop?

The ink dries in about 30 seconds on surfaces like metal and plastic, and it remains usable down to -50 °F, so cold conditions will not stop it from working.
