Protect your boat keel with a DIY guard
Megaware KeelGuard is a 10-foot abrasion-resistant keel protector designed for boat owners who want to shield their hull from sand, rocks and ramp damage. The white finish is one of 11 colours available to match most hulls. It uses a pressure-sensitive adhesive that permanently bonds and seals the contoured edges to the hull surface.
Hydrodynamic channels reduce drag and noise
Angled grooves on the surface create hydrodynamic channels that trap air pockets, giving a slicker surface while underway. The polymer and urethane blend is engineered for durability and pliability, conforming to the keel shape without adding noticeable weight or vibration. Installation is a straightforward do-it-yourself process.
Replaces worn gelcoat or older tape protectors
This guard is meant for hulls where the gelcoat has worn thin or where an existing keel tape has failed, preventing water from reaching the fiberglass laminates. It is not for boaters who need a full-length hull skin or a sacrificial layer thicker than the supplied profile. The jump is worth it when launch abrasion is the primary wear source.

Questions about this item
How do I apply the pressure-sensitive adhesive on the 10 ft KeelGuard without trapping air under the contoured edges?
Clean and dry the hull thoroughly, then press the protector firmly from the centre outward so the adhesive bonds and seals the edges while the angled grooves form hydrodynamic channels.
When will the polymer-urethane blend on the 10 ft KeelGuard need replacement from abrasion?
The abrasion-resistant blend is engineered for long-term protection against sand, rocks and ramps; inspect the grooves each season and replace the strip once the contoured edges no longer seal to the hull.
At what point does the adhesive bond on the 10 ft KeelGuard become the limiting factor during repeated beach launches?
The pressure-sensitive adhesive permanently bonds and seals the contoured edges; sustained heavy launches will eventually overcome that bond before the polymer-urethane material itself wears through.
