Single-Port 10 GbE Adapter

The Mellanox ConnectX-3 EN is a full-profile expansion card that adds one 10 GbE SFP+ port to a server or workstation. It targets administrators who need a single high-speed link for storage, virtualization or backup traffic without occupying multiple slots.

PCIe 3.0 x4 Electrical Interface

The card plugs into a PCI Express 3.0 x8 physical slot but operates electrically at x4, so the host must provide at least four lanes. Builders with only x1 or x4 physical slots cannot install this adapter.

Passive Cooling in Server Chassis

The board uses a bare heatsink and relies on directed chassis airflow, so it produces no fan noise when installed in a properly ventilated rack enclosure. Power draw remains modest for a 10 GbE controller, keeping thermal load low in dense deployments.

Questions about this item

What does the 10 GbE rating mean once the card is installed in a server?

The single SFP+ port delivers up to 10 Gbps of Ethernet throughput when paired with a compatible transceiver and switch.

How does the PCI Express x4 3.0 interface limit real-world speed?

The x4 Gen 3.0 link provides enough bandwidth to sustain line-rate 10 GbE traffic without bottlenecking the port.

Will this full-profile bracket fit in a low-profile chassis?

No, the card uses a full-profile bracket so it requires a standard-height slot and chassis.
