Outdoor 2.4 GHz Access Point

The Mikrotik wAP R is a small weatherproof wireless access point that operates on the 2.4 GHz band. It includes built-in LTE antennas and a miniPCI-e slot for adding a cellular modem. A single 10/100 Ethernet port provides a wired connection for nearby devices. The unit is powered by 9-30 V PoE, a DC jack or an automotive connector.

Mounting and Connectivity Fit

This device suits installers who need a durable outdoor or vehicle-mounted access point with flexible power options. The included desktop stand also allows indoor placement near a window. Buyers requiring multiple wired ports or 5 GHz wireless operation should consider other hardware.

Single 10/100 Ethernet Port

Only one 10/100 Ethernet LAN port is available for wired backhaul or client connections. Networks that need more than one wired drop will require an external switch. This port count is the key factor when planning the physical installation.

Questions about this item

What does the 300 Mbit/s 2.4 GHz wireless rate mean for real-world throughput?

The 300 Mbit/s figure is the maximum PHY link rate on 2.4 GHz; actual user throughput will be lower due to protocol overhead, interference and client capabilities.

How does the 10/100 Ethernet port limit the connection speed?

The single 10/100 Ethernet port caps wired traffic at 100 Mbit/s full-duplex, so it becomes the bottleneck when the wireless link runs faster.

What mounting options are included for outdoor or vehicle use?

The unit is weatherproof and ships with a desktop stand; it can also be pole- or wall-mounted outside and powered via 9-30 V PoE, DC jack or automotive connector.
