Handheld disc sander uses Iridium abrasive at 180 grit for fine finishing
The Mirka Iridium MRK-24-38P-180 is a handheld pneumatic disc sander built for surface preparation. It uses Iridium abrasive material rated at 180 grit for consistent finishing results. This tool suits technicians working on automotive panels, marine surfaces or woodwork. It requires a compressed-air supply to operate.
Swap this disc in when the current 180 grit abrasive no longer cuts cleanly or loads up too quickly. The upgrade is worth it if the old disc leaves uneven scratch patterns or demands excessive pressure. Fresh Iridium material restores the intended cut rate and surface uniformity. It fits the same handheld pneumatic sander used for the previous disc.
The 180 grit rating handles intermediate sanding between coarse removal and fine finishing passes. It comfortably levels primer, flattens orange peel and prepares surfaces for top-coat application. The disc runs out when the abrasive grains dull or the backing wears through. Heavy stock removal or aggressive stripping exceeds its intended capacity.

The disc is designed for a 38 mm backing pad, so the sander must accept that diameter for a secure fit.
Align the disc centre with the pad, press firmly for full adhesion, and avoid trapping dust between the surfaces which reduces grip.
Replace the disc once the abrasive surface becomes glazed or the grit no longer cuts cleanly, indicating the 180 grade is worn.
