Eight-line SIP phone for office desks
The Mitel 480g is a business VoIP telephone that supports eight call appearances with tri-colour LED indicators. It runs SIP and a range of wideband codecs including G.722, G.729a and iLBC. A 297 x 160 pixel monochrome LCD with backlighting shows caller information and menus. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet allows a PC to share the network drop and the phone draws power via Class 2 PoE.
Six fixed feature keys and five context soft keys
Dedicated keys for transfer, conference, hold, history, voicemail and directory give immediate access to core functions. Five programmable soft keys adapt to call state and system features. The history key adds advanced filtering and redial. A full-duplex speakerphone, headset port with RJ-22 connector and LED status indicator, plus separate volume controls for handset, speakerphone, headset and ringer, round out the audio interface.
Desk-mount installation with PoE or local power
The handset, base and coiled cord connect in a single orientation; the two Ethernet ports are labelled LAN and PC for straightforward cabling. Class 2 PoE eliminates a separate adapter when the switch supports it, otherwise a 48 V supply is required. Common issues include VLAN mismatch on the LAN port, DHCP scope exhaustion and codec negotiation failures when the PBX does not offer G.711 or G.729a.

Questions about this item
Will the RJ-22 headset jack need a new cord or adapter later?
The RJ-22 jack uses standard handset cords; replace the cord if it frays, no proprietary adapter required.
Does the 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch become the bottleneck on a gigabit LAN?
The integrated switch runs at 10/100/1000 speeds, so it matches a gigabit LAN and will not throttle the link.
How much heat or fan noise does the Class 2 PoE phone produce on a desk all day?
Class 2 PoE draws modest power, the unit has no fan, and surface temperature stays low during continuous operation.
