65.6 ft USB 3.0 Active Optical Extension

This Monoprice SlimRun cable extends a USB 3.0 connection up to 65.6 feet using optical fiber instead of copper. It delivers 5 Gbps bandwidth without external power and maintains backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 devices. The slender 3 mm diameter makes routing easier than standard copper extensions.

Suits long-distance peripheral links.

Installers connecting printers, scanners or cameras across large rooms or between floors will benefit from the 150-foot rated reach and plug-and-play simplicity. Users needing only a few extra feet of cable length should consider a passive copper alternative instead.

5 Gbps optical transmission over 65.6 ft

The active optical design transmits full USB 3.0 speed at 5 Gbps across the entire 65.6 foot length without signal degradation. This single specification determines whether the cable meets the bandwidth and distance requirements of the installation.

Questions about this item

Will the fiber-optic cable or its USB-A connectors need replacement after long-term installation?

The cable uses optical fiber instead of copper, so signal integrity does not degrade with bending or age; the USB-A male and female connectors are rated for standard mating cycles and carry a lifetime warranty from Monoprice.

What limits the maximum usable length when running at USB 3.0 5 Gbps speeds?

The active optical design supports USB 3.0 at 5 Gbps up to 150 feet without external power, so the 65.6-foot length stays well within the rated distance.

How much power does the active optical cable draw from the host during all-day use?

The cable delivers 5 VDC at up to 900 mA to the downstream device and operates without an external power adapter, drawing only what the connected peripheral requires.
