Direct Burial Speaker Cable

Monoprice 121552 is a 12AWG two-conductor wire built for permanent outdoor and in-ground installations. The moisture-resistant polyethylene jacket and water-blocking tape protect the 100 percent oxygen-free copper conductors from soil and weather exposure. Grey coloration blends with hardscapes and conduit runs.

Build Quality and Daily Use

A tough outer sheath resists abrasion during trench pulls and survives direct burial without conduit. Color-coded inner jackets simplify polarity identification when terminating at amplifiers or landscape speakers. The 76.2 metre reel supplies enough length for multi-zone runs without mid-cable splices.

Upgrade Path and Fit

Replaces standard indoor-rated speaker wire that degrades quickly in damp soil or direct sunlight. The jump is worth it when runs must survive seasonal freeze-thaw cycles or landscape irrigation. Not suited for buyers who need four-conductor cable for bi-wiring or paired speaker runs from a single pull.

Questions about this item

What does the 12 AWG rating mean for signal loss over a 250 ft run?

The 12 AWG conductors use 100 percent oxygen-free copper to keep resistance low across the full 250 ft length, preserving amplifier power at the speaker terminals.

What outer jacket diameter should I plan for when pulling this through conduit?

The direct-burial polyethylene jacket adds a water-blocking tape layer over two insulated conductors, so measure the reel before cutting conduit to ensure adequate fill space.

How do I identify the two conductors when terminating at the speaker and amplifier?

Each conductor carries its own color-coded jacket inside the gray outer sheath; strip the outer jacket first, then match the inner colors to the correct positive and negative terminals.
