Installation-ready speaker cable

This Monoprice 113713 speaker wire is a four-conductor, 12 AWG cable supplied in a 250 ft pull box. The CMP plenum rating certifies the jacket for installation inside walls, ceilings and air-handling spaces in both residential and commercial buildings. High-purity oxygen-free copper conductors aim to preserve signal integrity over long runs.

Replaces standard in-wall speaker wire

The plenum-rated jacket upgrades basic CL2 or CL3 cables where fire codes demand CMP compliance for plenum air spaces. The jump is worth it when building inspectors require a CMP listing or when the cable must pass through drop ceilings and raised floors used for air return. Four conductors let you pull a single cable for a stereo pair instead of running two separate two-conductor lines.

Suits installers and system integrators

Professional installers who need code-compliant cable for whole-house audio, distributed commercial sound or home-theatre pre-wiring will find the 76.2 m length practical for multi-room pulls. Buyers who only need a few metres for exposed equipment-rack connections or who require a different gauge should look at other options.

Questions about this item

What conduit or duct space does the 12 AWG CMP jacket allow this 250 ft reel to occupy?

The CMP plenum rating certifies the black jacket for installation inside air-handling plenums and ducts in commercial buildings, so the cable can be pulled through those spaces without additional fire barrier.

Which step is most often missed when terminating the four oxygen-free copper conductors?

Installers frequently forget to match each colour-coded inner jacket to the correct amplifier and speaker terminals before securing the connectors, causing crossed channels.

How often will the bare copper conductors need inspection or replacement after an in-wall run?

The oxygen-free copper resists oxidation and the plenum jacket resists degradation, so no scheduled conductor replacement is required; only inspect if the system develops audible distortion.
