Plenum-Rated 4-Conductor Speaker Wire

Monoprice 113720 is a CMP-rated speaker wire built for in-wall and plenum-space installations where fire codes require low-smoke, flame-retardant jackets. The 14AWG, four-conductor design uses 100% oxygen-free bare copper to connect speaker pairs in residential or commercial audio systems. It ships as a 250ft pull with a black outer jacket.

Sustained Installation Performance

The plenum-rated jacket maintains its fire-safety compliance throughout the full 249.94ft length, resisting flame spread and smoke generation during long cable runs through air-handling spaces. Oxygen-free copper conductors preserve signal integrity over extended distances without the degradation that can occur with lesser alloys. The softer jacket material stays flexible during lengthy pulls, reducing kinking and jacket damage.

Installation Practicality

The flexible plenum jacket eases routing through studs, conduit, and tight ceiling cavities compared to stiffer CMP cables, while color-coded inner jackets simplify conductor identification at both ends. Installers should verify local code acceptance of CMP rating for the specific application, as some jurisdictions impose additional requirements. The 250ft length suits whole-home or multi-zone runs but may leave excess on smaller single-room jobs.

Questions about this item

Does this 14AWG plenum-rated cable generate noticeable heat when run at high volume for extended periods?

Speaker wire of this gauge carries low-voltage audio signals and does not produce measurable heat during normal all-day operation.

What connectors or terminals do I need to terminate the four oxygen-free copper conductors for a pair of speakers?

You will need four banana plugs, spade lugs or pin connectors per speaker pair to match the 14AWG bare copper ends.

Will the CMP-rated jacket and colour-coded inner sheaths fit through existing conduit already holding older CL2 speaker cable?

The plenum jacket is softer and more flexible than traditional CMP jackets, allowing easier pulls through occupied conduit alongside legacy wiring.
