In-wall rated 18AWG speaker cable

Monoprice 113729 is a two-conductor speaker wire built for residential and commercial installations. The CMP plenum rating confirms compliance with fire-safety requirements for in-wall and air-space routing. High-purity oxygen-free copper conductors preserve signal integrity over the 50ft length. The jacket material is formulated to stay flexible during pulls through conduit or stud bays.

Thermals noise and power draw

Passive copper cable generates no heat, emits no noise and draws no power in normal use. The plenum-rated jacket resists flame spread and limits smoke production if exposed to fire. Oxygen-free copper keeps resistance low so amplifier power reaches the speaker without unnecessary loss. Flexible jacket reduces installation stress on terminations.

Upgrade from non-rated or thinner wire

Replaces standard CL2 or CL3 cables when building codes require plenum-rated materials in return-air spaces. The 18AWG gauge suits typical home-theatre runs up to 50ft without excessive voltage drop. Not suited for buyers who need four-conductor cable for bi-wire or dual-speaker pulls. Not suited for runs exceeding the supplied length without adding joints.

Questions about this item

How do I install this 18AWG CMP-rated speaker wire inside walls without violating fire codes?

The CMP plenum rating allows the 15.24 m cable to be run through air-handling spaces and wall cavities; the common mistake is using non-plenum wire in those same pathways.

What maintenance or replacement will this 113729 plenum speaker wire need over its lifetime?

The oxygen-free bare copper conductors and flexible CMP jacket are designed to last the life of the installation; no periodic maintenance or scheduled replacement is required.

What is the first performance limit I will hit when running this 50 ft 18 AWG speaker wire at sustained high volumes?

The 18 AWG gauge sets the practical limit; over 15.24 m the resistance can cause measurable voltage drop at high continuous power, so keep runs within recommended lengths for your amplifier.
