  • 2U height uses only 3.5" vertical space
  • 180 sq in surface fits 18" wide by 10" deep gear
  • Holds up to 30 lbs for secure equipment support
  • Steel construction provides durable rack mounting solution

Fixed shelf for 19" racks

The Monoprice 8631 is a single-sided steel shelf that occupies 2U of rack height and fits standard 19" wide equipment or relay racks. It provides roughly 180 square inches of usable surface for lightweight hardware such as switches, patch panels or small appliances.

Compatibility check

Verify that your rack uses standard 19" wide mounting rails before ordering. The shelf requires 3.5" of vertical clearance and 10" of usable depth, so confirm the available space between front and rear rails. Ensure the total load you plan to place on the shelf does not exceed 30 lbs.

Build and daily use

Constructed from steel, the shelf mounts on the front rails only, leaving the rear open for cable routing and airflow. The fixed design means equipment stays in position during routine maintenance, while the open rear simplifies access to power and data connections.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy mounting hardware separately?

The shelf itself is included. Mounting screws or cage nuts for a standard 19" rack are not supplied and must be purchased separately.

Should I choose the 3.5" high version or a different height for my 19" rack?

This model 8631 is a 2U shelf at 3.5" high. Choose it when you need a single 2U fixed shelf; select a different model if you require 1U, 3U or a sliding design.

What does the 30 lb load rating mean once the shelf is installed in a rack?

It means the steel shelf can safely support equipment weighing up to 30 lbs distributed across its 18" wide by 10" deep surface when mounted in a standard 19" rack.
