250 W air cooler with RGB

The MSI Core Frozr XL is a dual-fan tower cooler built around eight nickel-plated 6 mm heat pipes and an aluminum-and-copper heatsink rated to dissipate up to 250 W. Two 120 mm fans spin between 500 and 1800 RPM, delivering 19.79 to 71.27 CFM at 17.2 to 33.6 dBA. A 4-pin PWM/DC connector and 16.8 million-colour RGB lighting controlled via Mystic Light complete the package.

Suitable for legacy Intel and AMD sockets

This cooler fits Intel LGA 775, 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011 and 2011-3 plus AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, AM4, FM1 and FM2. Builders working with newer socket generations not listed above will need a different mounting kit or cooler.

170 mm maximum cooler height

The assembled unit measures 170 mm tall with both fans installed, so the chassis must provide at least that much CPU cooler clearance. Cases with tighter internal space cannot accommodate this model.

Questions about this item

How much heat can the 250 W rating actually pull away from a CPU inside a case?

The cooler is rated to dissipate up to 250 W of heat from the CPU when both fans are running at full speed, using a nickel-plated copper base and eight 6 mm heat pipes to transfer that energy into the aluminium fin stack.

What does the 4-pin PWM/DC connector limit in terms of speed control?

The 4-pin PWM/DC header lets the motherboard vary fan speed between 500 and 1800 RPM, so the board can lower noise at idle or ramp airflow to 71.27 CFM under load without needing a separate controller.

Will the 170 mm height and 1295 g weight fit my case and motherboard?

The assembled cooler stands 170 mm tall and weighs 1295 g with both fans, so your case must allow at least that much CPU cooler clearance and the motherboard mounting holes must match the listed Intel and AMD sockets.
