Gaming laptop for high-refresh QHD play

The MSI Katana 15.6" QHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop pairs an Intel Core i7-14650HX with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 GPU. A 15.6" 165 Hz IPS panel at 2560 x 1440 covers 100% DCI-P3. 64GB DDR5 5600 and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe M.2 SSD provide memory and storage headroom. Windows 11 Pro and Copilot+ PC features complete the platform.

Thermals and acoustics under load

A 55.2 Wh lithium-polymer battery powers the 16-core 24-thread processor and dedicated graphics. The thin-bezel chassis manages heat from the 5.2 GHz max turbo CPU and RTX 5070 during extended sessions. Fan behaviour scales with combined CPU and GPU load. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 maintain wireless throughput without adding thermal load.

Build, ports and daily ergonomics

The black chassis measures 14.13 x 10.31 x 0.99 inches and weighs 4.29 lbs. A 4-zone RGB keyboard with anti-ghost keys supports per-zone lighting control. I/O includes three USB Type-A, one USB Type-C, HDMI, RJ-45 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN and a headphone/microphone combo jack. A webcam sits above the display for video calls.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB NVMe SSD and what step is often missed?

The 1TB NVMe SSD fits the M.2 slot directly; the step often missed is enabling the PCIe Gen 4x4 mode in BIOS so the drive runs at its rated speed.

What maintenance will the 55.2Wh battery need later?

The 55.2Wh lithium-polymer battery is not user-replaceable; plan for a service-centre swap once capacity drops below usable levels after several hundred charge cycles.

What limit appears first during sustained gaming on the RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7?

The 55.2Wh battery depletes quickly under full GPU load, so runtime becomes the first constraint before thermal throttling on the 16-core i7-14650HX.
