This Katana 15 laptop pairs a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 144Hz panel with an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor. The 16-core 24-thread CPU runs at a 2.2 GHz base and reaches 5.2 GHz max turbo. It targets gamers and creators who want high refresh visuals and multi-threaded speed in a 14.13 x 10.31 x 0.99 inch chassis.

Cooler Boost 5 thermal design with shared heat pipes

MSI’s Cooler Boost 5 uses dual fans and shared heat pipes to move heat off the CPU and RTX 5050 GPU. The 8 GB GDDR7 graphics card and 16 GB DDR5 4800 memory stay fed without thermal throttling during extended sessions. Fan noise rises under load but remains controlled for a 5.29 pound system.

Windows 11 Home plus Office 2021 licence and Wi-Fi

The box includes a genuine Windows 11 Home licence and an Office 2021 licence ready for activation. Connectivity comes from Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 and Bluetooth 5.3. Ports cover HDMI 2.1, three USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C and one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A plus RJ45 Ethernet.

Questions about this item

Will the 15.6-inch 144 Hz FHD panel fit in a standard 15-inch laptop sleeve?

The chassis measures 14.13 by 10.31 by .99 inches, so a sleeve sized for a typical 15-inch notebook will accommodate it.

Can I add a second SSD without removing the existing 512 GB PCIe drive?

The supplier only lists one 512 GB PCIe SSD; any additional storage would require an open M.2 slot that is not confirmed in the specifications.

Does the HDMI 2.1 port support 4 K at 144 Hz on an external monitor?

HDMI 2.1 provides the bandwidth for 4 K at high refresh rates, and the RTX 5050 with 8 GB GDDR7 can drive such a display.
