Built for competitive play

The Katana 15 pairs a 16-core Intel Core i7-14650HX with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 laptop GPU. A 15.6-inch QHD panel at 165Hz delivers 2560 x 1440 resolution for fast-paced titles. 32GB DDR5 4800 memory and a 2TB PCIe SSD keep large libraries ready. Windows 11 Pro and an Office 2024 license ship pre-installed.

Thermals and acoustics

MSI's Cooler Boost 5 design uses dual fans and enlarged heat pipes to move heat away from the CPU and GPU under sustained load. Fan curves stay moderate during everyday tasks and rise only when the 5.2 GHz turbo engages. The 8GB GDDR7 frame buffer helps the GPU finish frames efficiently, limiting waste heat. Power draw scales with the 16-core processor and RTX 5070 during gaming sessions.

QHD 165Hz decides fit

The 15.6-inch 2560 x 1440 165Hz display is the single spec that determines suitability. Competitive shooters benefit from the high refresh rate; content creators gain the pixel density for timeline work. If the target workflow centres on 1080p high-frame-rate play or 4K colour-critical output, this panel sits in the middle. Choose based on that resolution and refresh combination.
