PS5-ready heatsink SSD

The SPATIUM M480 PLAY is an M.2 2280 internal drive built with a dual-finish aluminum heatsink that meets PlayStation 5 expansion requirements. It uses 3D NAND flash and a PHISON E18 controller to deliver 2 TB of storage for games and applications. The slim profile fits the console slot without modification.

PCIe 4.0 x4 interface limits

The drive connects through a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 link, so sequential throughput cannot exceed the bandwidth of that standard. Maximum read reaches 7000 MBps and write reaches 6800 MBps only when the host platform provides a full Gen4 connection. Older slots will reduce those speeds to their own ceiling.

2 TB capacity decides fit

The single specification that determines suitability is the 2 TB capacity, which must match the space you need for your game library or workload. Combined with 256-bit AES encryption and the included heatsink, this capacity defines whether the drive satisfies your storage target.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2 TB model or look at a larger capacity?

The M480 PLAY tops out at 2 TB in this listing; if you need more space you would need a different drive.

What do the 7000 MB/s read and 6800 MB/s write figures mean once the drive is installed in my PC or PS5?

They are the peak sequential speeds the PHISON E18 controller can hit over a PCIe 4.0 x4 link; real-world game loads and file copies will be lower but still very fast.

Does the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface limit performance on a PCIe 3.0 motherboard?

Yes, the drive will run at PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds on an older board, capping throughput well below the 7000 MB/s headline figure.
