8TB M.2 2280 NVMe drive

This Mushkin Enhanced Gamma SSD delivers eight terabytes of storage in the M.2 2280 form factor with a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe 1.3 interface. It is built with 3D QLC memory components and targets consumer workloads that need high capacity and fast sequential throughput. Hardware-based encryption supports AES 128/256 bit, SHA160/256/512 and RSA 2048 for data security.

Sustained write behaviour with QLC and LDPC

The drive specifies maximum sequential write of up to 5900 MBps and 4KB random write of up to 1,000,000 IOPS. Built-in 4th generation LDPC ECC provides the most powerful data correction level in use today, while SmartECC and end-to-end data path protection maintain integrity during long transfers. Internal SRAM ECC and parity protection add another layer of error handling, and data shaping increases endurance for heavy write cycles.

Straightforward M.2 installation

The single-sided M.2 2280 module fits the standard slot without cables or brackets. No extra drivers are required on modern operating systems because the NVMe 1.3 protocol is natively supported. The main risk is inserting the drive at an angle or not securing the retention screw, which can cause detection failures or unstable performance.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 8 TB Gamma draw during sustained all-day workloads?

The drive connects through a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe 1.3 interface, so power is supplied directly by the M.2 slot; no external power cable is needed.

What motherboard slot is required for the MKNSSDGA8TB-D8 to operate?

An M.2 2280 slot wired for PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe 1.3 is required; the drive will not function on a slot that only provides a different electrical interface.

Will the Gamma 8 TB work alongside an older PCIe Gen3 M.2 drive in the same system?

Yes, each M.2 slot negotiates its own link speed, so the Gamma will run at Gen4 x4 while a Gen3 drive in another slot remains at Gen3 x4.
