Portable DVD Boombox with ATSC Tuner

The Naxa NDL-287M-BLACK is a portable DVD boombox built around a 7" LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It plays DVD, DVD±R/RW, CD and CD-R/RW discs, and its built-in digital ATSC tuner receives free over-the-air HD television stations. Twin speakers driven by full-range drivers handle audio, while Bluetooth 2.1 adds wireless music streaming from compatible devices. Power options include AC 120V, DC 12V or eight C-size batteries (not included).

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This unit suits viewers who want a single device for disc playback, broadcast TV and wireless audio in a carry-friendly form factor. The included wired microphone and 3.5mm mic input support karaoke or PA use. Buyers who need an embedded rechargeable battery for untethered operation should look elsewhere, as the boombox relies on external AC, DC or disposable cells. Users requiring HDMI or component video outputs will also need a different model.

Deciding specification: ATSC tuner and Bluetooth 2.1

The combination of a built-in ATSC tuner for free-to-air HD TV and Bluetooth 2.1 for audio streaming is the feature set that determines fit. If your primary need is disc playback with occasional TV viewing and wireless music, this specification covers both. If you only need a disc player without broadcast reception or Bluetooth, a simpler device may be more appropriate.

Questions about this item

How do I power the Naxa NDL-287M-BLACK for the first time?

The C-size batteries that power portable use will need regular replacement; the included remote control also uses batteries that will eventually run out.

Battery runtime is not rated by the manufacturer; for extended journeys use the DC car cord on 12V or the AC cable on 120V to avoid interruption.
